About Timothy P. Belanger, CPA
I am a sole practitioner who started my career in public accounting working for a medium sized CPA firm in Cambridge, MA. Unlike most of the national firms, my first employer was unique in that the professional staff were able to work on audits of small businesses during the day and then the corporate tax returns for those closely held businesses in the evening. We also prepared individual tax returns for the shareholders of those closely held businesses.
I believe the experience I gained during that initial part of my working career was invaluable and I enjoyed preparing taxes enough that I’ve continued it for the last 23 years after leaving the public accounting firm and working for private companies as their Accounting Director/Controller. Given that this tax work is done on a part-time basis, I control my advertising, but nonetheless, my business has seen modest growth each year solely from referrals by existing clients who appreciate the thorough job that I do and my attention to detail.
I take the time to build strong relationships with my clients which makes them feel comfortable sharing personal and highly confidential information with me that is required to prepare their tax returns. I also take the time to fully understand their specific tax situation which helps ensure that we are taking advantage of all the applicable tax deductions and credits and therefore maximizing their refund or minimizing their liability.
